The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has expressed profound sorrow over the brutal murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.
She was allegedly killed by Abdulrahman Bello, a self-proclaimed Islamic cleric.
In response, the Emir has directed Imams throughout the state to focus their Friday sermons on condemning ritual killings and other inhumane acts, stressing the importance of upholding morality and dignity in society.
A statement issued by the Emir’s spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, on Sunday condemned the incident, describing it as “most unfortunate, alien to the culture of Ilorin, and a regrettable act of wickedness.”
The Emir also emphasized the need for vigilance within families and communities, urging parents and guardians to ensure their children and wards associate with individuals of sound character and verified family backgrounds.
Furthermore, Dr. Sulu-Gambari highlighted the value of hard work, urging a concerted effort to combat idleness, laziness, and the culture of loitering among youths under the guise of seeking ways to survive.
He also called on religious leaders in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond to help cleanse the community by identifying and reporting individuals like Abdulrahman Bello to law enforcement agencies before they cause further harm.
The Emir expressed his condolences to the family of the late Hafsoh Lawal and called for justice to be served.
He urged the Nigeria Police and the judiciary to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of the case.
