A 29-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his mother for ritual purposes in Cross River State.
The arrest was confirmed by the state’s Police Command spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, who provided few additional details in a statement to the press on Friday in Calabar.
Report indicates that the crime took place on December 25, 2024, in Batriko, located in the Eastern Boki Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
A reliable source disclosed that a combined team of police officers and Obudu LGA security personnel apprehended the suspect on Friday.
The suspect had disposed of his mother’s body in a well in Obudu LGA, and security forces had been actively pursuing him since the incident.

The source added that the suspect was arrested alongside a native doctor and would soon be transferred to the state police headquarters for further investigation.
It was also reported that the suspect had shaved his deceased mother’s hair before abandoning her remains in the well.
The source further disclosed that the arrest took place at the native doctor’s shrine, where the suspect was found carrying a bag containing his mother’s shaved hair.
“As of now, both the suspect and the native doctor are being held at the Obudu Divisional Police Headquarters,” the source stated.
