The United States Mission in Nigeria has launched an investigation into how past aid allocated to Nigeria and other countries was utilized, as concerns grow over global destabilization and misalignment with American interests.
This comes after US President Donald Trump’s decision on January 20, 2025, to suspend all foreign aid for 90 days. The move reflects increasing scrutiny of US Agency for International Development, USAID, health funds.
In a statement on Tuesday, the US Mission to Nigeria confirmed that monitoring systems are in place to track previous assistance provided by the US government, ensuring that aid reaches intended recipients.
The mission also condemned the ongoing violence by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria, emphasizing a commitment to working with Nigeria and regional partners to combat terrorism and strengthen security in West Africa.
Boko Haram was officially designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the US Secretary of State on November 14, 2013. The designation aims to block the group’s assets, restrict fundraising, prosecute members, and prevent their travel to the United States.
