A trip to see his father has become a nemesis for Muhammed Ajoge, a banker seized by gunmen along the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway on February 22.
Ajoge was traveling alone to Okene, Kogi State, when armed men intercepted his vehicle, forced him to stop, and led him into the forest at gunpoint. His abduction comes at a painful time for his family, as he recently lost his mother.
The kidnappers have since contacted his wife using his mobile phone, demanding a N30 million ransom. A N5 million offer from the family was rejected.
Colleagues at FCMB clarified that Ajoge’s trip was personal, not an official assignment, meaning the bank cannot take full responsibility for negotiations or police investigations without the family’s authorization.
In response to a private inquiry on its official X formerly Twitter account, FCMB assured that it is taking the matter seriously.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Ajoge and his family, and we remain hopeful for his safe return. This is receiving urgent attention,” the bank stated.
As of the time of this report, the police are yet to issue a statement or confirm efforts to secure Ajoge’s release. The growing insecurity along the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway, now a hotspot for kidnappings, has heightened concerns.
Family members, colleagues, and well-wishers remain hopeful for Ajoge’s safe return.
