The Yobe State Police Command has reported that 10 people died and three others were injured in an accident on the Damaturu-Maiduguri road.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

Abdulkarim stated that the accident occurred around 10 am at a security checkpoint in Warsala Town when a truck, carrying cement and passengers, collided with a car before plunging into a ditch.

He said that 10 of the 13 passengers on the truck died on the spot, while three others were injured. The injured victims were taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu for treatment.

Abdulkarim explained that investigations disclosed the truck lost control and crashed into the car at the checkpoint before veering into the ditch.

The car driver, who was alone, survived the crash without injury, although the vehicle was damaged.
