Nigeria and Belgium are set to deepen economic ties, focusing on agriculture and food security, as both nations explore collaborative opportunities.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, discussed these prospects with the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Pieter Leenknegt, during a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
A statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the ministry, Mohammed Manga, highlighted key areas of the discussion, including economic cooperation and support for Nigerian farmers.
Edun emphasized Nigeria’s improving economic indicators, citing declining inflation, price stability, and increased savings in the federation account. He also reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to macroeconomic reforms aimed at fostering growth and stability.
On his part, Leenknegt expressed Belgium’s readiness to strengthen trade and investment relations with Nigeria, particularly in the agricultural sector. He described the meeting as a crucial step toward enhancing bilateral ties for mutual economic benefits.
With agriculture playing a vital role in Nigeria’s economic diversification, the collaboration is expected to create more opportunities for farmers while ensuring sustainable food production.
