The Plateau State Government has launched a crackdown on the rising number of illegal schools and hospitals operating across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kachollom Gang raised concerns over the proliferation of substandard institutions during the inauguration of an investigative panel in Jos on Tuesday.
She emphasized that the initiative aims to enforce quality education and healthcare standards, ensuring that institutions meet regulatory requirements.
“There are so many illegal schools and hospitals on the Plateau, and the state is really suffering from that anomaly. These sectors are critical to human existence, and we must get it right,” she said.
Gang tasked the panel with identifying unregistered private schools and ensuring compliance with established guidelines. She urged members to approach the assignment with integrity, warning against any attempt to compromise the process.
Beyond improving education quality, the commissioner highlighted the economic benefits of enforcing regulations, noting that proper compliance would boost the state’s revenue.
The verification panel consists of officials from the Ministry of Education and the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, who will work together to streamline operations in the sector.
