Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja has rejected a request for his recusal from the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, Justice Oshodi stated that the defence’s allegations of bias were unsubstantiated, emphasizing that there was no evidence to warrant his withdrawal from the case.
The defence, led by Olalekan Ojo, had made an oral application on Monday, arguing that the judge’s previous rulings indicated a potential bias in the trial.

However, Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, opposed the request, asserting that the trial had been conducted fairly and impartially.
After considering the legal arguments and authorities presented by both sides, Justice Oshodi concluded that the application lacked merit and dismissed it.
“The claims of bias have not been substantiated by either of the defendants. Therefore, the recusal application is refused,” the judge stated.
