The police have confirmed the kidnapping of female students from Joseph Saawuaan Tarka Federal University Makurdi, formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture.
Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Command, CSP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations and rescue operations are underway.
Sources from the university report that four female students were abducted by unidentified gunmen.
The kidnapping occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the university’s premises, raising concerns about student safety, as the surrounding area borders communities previously affected by suspected herdsmen attacks.

The police spokesperson identified some of the students involved as Emmanuella Oraka, who was dressed in a wrapper, Fola in a yellow top, Susan in a floral top, and Ella in a black top.
An anonymous senior staff member at the university confirmed the incident, stating that the students were on their way to study when they were abducted between their hostels and the North Core area of the campus.
The news of the abduction led to widespread protests among students, who marched around the campus holding tree branches and demanding immediate action from the university authorities.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Itodo, has yet to respond to inquiries, and little information has been provided about measures being taken to ensure student safety and restore public confidence.
In response, personnel from the military’s Operation Whirl Stroke have been deployed to the area, and the Makurdi Local Government chairman, along with other state officials, is collaborating with security forces to address the situation.
