The security apparatus around Mojisola Meranda Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has been reinstated.
Eye brows were raised earlier Thursday when are security details were withdrawn without exllas fuelling speculations about her possible resignation.
Lagos State Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh confirmed the restoration during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja. He stated that the security aides were withdrawn for an audit and not due to any ulterior motive.
Earlier, all police officers and security aides assigned to Meranda were removed, leaving her vulnerable. A source close to the Speaker confirmed the situation, while her spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor stated that they were unaware of the reasons behind the decision.
Meanwhile, security aides of the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, were reinstated the same day, adding to speculations about the Assembly’s ongoing power struggle.
Speculation about Meranda’s resignation had circulated earlier, prompting her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, to dismiss the claims on February 19, calling them the work of “mischief makers.”
However, with the political tension still unresolved, the Assembly remains on edge as stakeholders await further developments.
