A widespread power outage caused by technical faults in some feeders operated by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, has affected at least 53 locations, including the Presidential Villa.

The fault, which impacted power supply in parts of the Abuja metropolis, disrupted transmission to the R4 Injection Sub Station at Three Arm Zone, Aso Drive, which supplies electricity to the Presidential Villa.

AEDC announced the issue on its official X handle on Friday, urging customers to be patient as its engineers work to restore power to the affected areas as soon as possible.

Affected areas include CKC Gwagwalada, Kuje Road, Almat Farms, Kiran Farm, Efugo, Kwali Road, L5 Injection Substation, Chukuku Environs, Premium Farm, El-rufai Estate, Daghiri, Kuje Extension, John Calvin Estate, Kings Court, Karmo District, Idu Industrial, Urban Shelter Katampe, and many others.

Additional impacted areas are Living Faith Church Katampe, Jahi Village, Katampe Extension, Gishiri, Mabushi, Kadokuchi, Navy Estate, Chida Hotel, Brains and Hammer City Estate, and others, covering sectors like Dape District, Gwarinpa, and parts of the American Embassy Estate.

The latest outage is part of ongoing technical disruptions caused by aging and deteriorating feeders. Recent reports revealed that between January 1 and February 11, 2025, at least 188 locations in the FCT under AEDC suffered blackouts and outages due to similar issues.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, expressed concerns about the continued deterioration of infrastructure in the electricity sector during the public presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy.

He attributed the problem to distribution companies’ reluctance to invest in their networks, focusing on short-term profits instead of long-term investments.

The Minister emphasized that this year, the government aims to restructure the distribution companies and implement major reforms to address their poor investment strategies.
