The National Universities Commission has given the nod for post graduate programs at Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, Kwara State.
The approval marks a significant milestone for the private institution as it introduces 27 new postgraduate programmes across various disciplines.
The university announced the approval of programmes including Accounting, Business Administration, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Criminology and Security Studies, Economics, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. Additionally, a new B.Sc. programme in Cyber Security will begin immediately.
The approved programmes are as follows:
– PGD, Masters, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Accounting
– PGD, MBA, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Business Administration
– PGD, Masters, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Mass Communication
– PGD, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Computer Science
– Masters, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Software Engineering
– M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Criminology and Security Studies
– PGD, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Economics
– M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry
– M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Microbiology
– B.Sc. in Cyber Security
Thomas Adewumi University, TAU, has a rich history that dates back to 1991 when the proprietor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Bamidele Olorunsola Adewumi, envisioned providing quality education at the primary and secondary school levels.
This vision led to the establishment of Prime Time Nursery and Primary School in 1996 and Thomas Adewumi International College ,TAICO, in 1997.

TAICO made a significant impact, earning the title of “Best Post Primary School in Nigeria” in 2006.
However, the proprietor recognized the challenges faced by graduates seeking higher education, prompting the decision to establish Thomas Adewumi University.

After obtaining the application form for a private university license from the National Universities Commission in 2010, TAU finally received its license on April 8, 2021 .
Today, Thomas Adewumi University offers various academic programs, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, and Innovations (STEM-i) .
This approval of the new post graduate programs is expected to enhance TAU’s position as a leading institution in Nigeria’s higher education landscape, catering to the growing demand for advanced academic programmes.
