David Shikfu Parradang, former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has been murdered by kidnappers in Abuja.

He was abducted in the Area 1 axis of the city early Tuesday after being trailed from a bank where he had withdrawn money. The attackers stole his cash before taking his life.

The tragic incident has reignited fears over the worsening security situation in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly the increasing cases of kidnappings and targeted attacks.

Residents and security analysts have expressed growing concerns about the inability of authorities to curb the rising wave of abductions, especially in previously considered safe areas.

Parradang, who served in the NIS for over 30 years, held key positions across the country, including Kano, Lagos, Kwara, and Enugu. He played a significant role in immigration policy reforms and border security enhancement during his tenure.

His contributions to national security earned him the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR,  honor and recognition as a distinguished graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, .

Beyond his professional achievements, he was widely respected for his commitment to public service and efforts to modernize Nigeria’s immigration system. His sudden and violent death has left colleagues, friends, and family in deep mourning, with many describing it as a huge loss to the nation.

Security agencies have launched an investigation to track down those responsible for his abduction and killing. Intelligence and law enforcement operatives are reportedly analyzing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the assailants and prevent further attacks in the capital.

The Nigerian Immigration Service has yet to issue an official statement on the tragedy. However, an Immigration headquarters official in Abuja confirmed the development, describing it as a shocking and painful loss. Many Nigerians are now calling for urgent government action to tackle the growing insecurity in the country’s capital.
