The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended a former immigration officer attempting to sell sophisticated firearms to bandits operating in the Abuja-Kaduna forests.
The dismissed officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested following an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the police.
In a briefing with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Mustafa Mohammed, highlighted that the successful operation prevented these advanced weapons from falling into the hands of criminals, who could have used them to intensify their violent activities.
Mohammed elaborated, “Acting on credible intelligence, the command intercepted these firearms from the dismissed immigration officer who was attempting to deliver them to bandits terrorizing the Abuja-Kaduna forest. The operation was executed in time, ensuring that the arms were intercepted before they could reach their intended recipients.”
Among the recovered weapons was a Scorpion CZ EVO3, an advanced and fully automatic firearm equipped with an inbuilt silencer.
Mohammed explained that this particular model, the 2022 version of the Scorpion series, is highly sophisticated and capable of operating in single, automatic, or burst modes.
The weapon’s magazine can hold between 20 to 30 rounds, depending on its configuration. The authorities also recovered 52 rounds of ammunition, which could have posed a significant threat if used by criminal elements.
