The Lagos State Police Command has rejected the circulating reports claiming that 28-year-old Adedamola Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University, LASU, was a victim of ritual killing.
The police confirmed that while Ogunbode had been reported missing, no mutilated body has been found as previously suggested on social media.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, addressed the situation in a statement on Wednesday.
“A report was made regarding Ogunbode’s disappearance, and three individuals, including a prophet, have been arrested in connection with the case. However, there is no truth to the claim of a mutilated body being discovered.
“The graduate is still missing, and we are handling this as a case of a missing person, not a murder. There is no deceased body involved at this time,” said the Police.
This clarification comes after the university administration issued a statement expressing concern over Ogunbode’s disappearance, which had sparked allegations that he was murdered by the prophet for ritualistic purposes.

The statement from Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator for the Centre for Information and Public Relations, disclosed that security agencies had initiated investigations after receiving reports of Ogunbode’s body being allegedly found buried at a church in the Ojo area.
The university expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling it a senseless act of violence. “Ogunbode, known affectionately as Horlar, was last seen on January 16. The management is devastated by the news of his untimely death,” the statement read. It also urged swift action from authorities to ensure justice is served.
“The prophet, who is under arrest, is currently assisting the police in their investigation. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. This is a tragic loss for the LASU community, and we share in the grief of those mourning his passing,” Thomas-Onashile added.
As investigations continue, the university emphasized its commitment to student safety and urged the campus community to remain calm and vigilant.
“We urge our students to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The safety of our students remains a priority, and we are working closely with law enforcement to maintain a secure environment,” the statement concluded.
