The United Kingdom’s Department for Business and Trade has concluded its Cybersecurity Inward Trade Mission to Nigeria, further deepening cybersecurity cooperation between both nations.
A statement by the British High Commission in Nigeria on Friday disclosed that the trade mission, held in Abuja and Lagos, was designed to bolster trade relations while promoting a resilient digital ecosystem in the country.
Bringing together 13 UK cybersecurity experts and Nigerian stakeholders, the mission focused on capacity building and introducing advanced UK cybersecurity solutions tailored to Nigeria’s unique challenges.
Key discussions during the event explored potential partnerships, intelligence sharing, and collaborative strategies to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks in both countries.
Mark Smithson, Country Director of the UK’s Department for International Trade, described the initiative as a step toward a safer and more prosperous digital future.

“The UK and Nigeria share a strong cybersecurity partnership, driving innovation, resilience, and economic growth. This mission highlights the UK’s world-class expertise while fostering collaborations that support Nigeria’s digital transformation,” he said.
Abubakar Saad, National Cybersecurity Coordinator at the Office of the National Security Adviser, commended the partnership’s impact, stating that intelligence sharing, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration had boosted the nations’ collective resilience against cyber threats.
“We remain committed to deepening this engagement, leveraging our shared expertise to enhance cybersecurity governance, combat cybercrime, and secure our digital ecosystem,” he said.
Haruna Jalo-Waziri, Managing Director of Central Securities Clearing System Plc, stressed that cybersecurity had become central to economic stability and national security.
“Just as cybercriminals collaborate, governments and the private sector must work together to stay ahead of emerging threats,” he said, applauding the UK-Nigeria cybersecurity cooperation as a crucial step toward a thriving digital economy.
