The National President of the Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED, Alumni Association, Mr. Bolaji Oladeji, has expressed his delight over the federal government’s decision to elevate the university to a federal institution.

In a statement issued on Monday, Oladeji described the move as a promising step towards the institution’s rapid development, a decision approved by President Bola Tinubu.

Oladeji, speaking on behalf of the alumni, emphasized that this significant change would offer the university new opportunities for growth.

He said, “As key stakeholders, the alumni have always been committed to the advancement of the university, and we welcome this new development with high hopes for the university’s future, especially in terms of growth and progress.”

He further acknowledged the gratitude of TASUED’s staff and students towards President Tinubu for his historic gesture, while expressing optimism for enhanced funding that could improve infrastructure, staff welfare, research opportunities, and the university’s global standing in teacher education.

In a similar vein, Akinbodunse Praise, Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Inter-Campus Affairs, also praised the federal government’s decision to elevate TASUED.

He noted that this move reflects the current administration’s commitment to the development of Nigeria’s education sector.

Akinbodunse also extended his gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continued support in maintaining the university, particularly in the face of attempts by the previous administration to close it down.

He recalled the student struggles in 2012 to prevent the scrapping of the institution, during which some students lost their lives. “Today, with TASUED’s elevation to a federal university, we know our efforts were not in vain,” he said.

The student leader also acknowledged the pivotal role played by Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, and other influential Nigerians who ensured the university’s survival.

He promised that the student community would continue to support the federal government for the betterment of the education system in Nigeria.

The federal government officially confirmed the decision on Sunday through a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The statement declared TASUED’s adoption as a federal university, marking a new chapter for the institution in Ijagun, Ogun State.
