Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has promised to support traders who lost their wares to the fire that ravaged Alesinloye Market in Ibadan earlier this week.
The governor made the commitment on Wednesday during an on-the-spot visit to the market, promising support as soon as the government receives a detailed report on the incident.
The fire, which broke out around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, caused extensive damage, destroying shops and goods valued at millions of naira.
Representing the governor, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal expressed sympathy to the traders who suffered losses in the blaze.

“As a government, we will take swift action to provide support through the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency,” Lawal said. “We will also collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency and other concerned individuals to offer immediate assistance to the victims.”
Makinde also instructed the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the Local Council Development Area to enhance security at the market and ensure a thorough investigation into the fire’s cause.
He called on market leaders to compile a list of the affected shops for further evaluation.
“This is a significant and well-known market, and it is heartbreaking to see this happen,” the governor said. “We pray that such incidents do not occur again, as the market has been an important part of the community for many years.”
