Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has expressed his support for Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye.

Uguamaye is the National Youth Service Corps ,NYSC, member facing criticism over a viral video in which she criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Sowore shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, announcing that he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and would be accompanying her to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s office, along with a team of lawyers.

“The journey with youth corp member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, has begun in Lagos. She is scheduled to appear before the Local Government Inspector today, and we are on our way with attorneys to accompany her,” Sowore stated in the video.

Uguamaye gained attention after posting a TikTok video where she criticized the country’s economic situation and expressed dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s leadership.

Following the backlash, she claimed to have received threats, sparking a broader conversation about free speech and political dissent in Nigeria.

She also shared an official invitation from the NYSC, requiring her to appear before the Local Government Inspector in Eti Osa 3 on Monday at 10:00 a.m.

Sowore’s involvement has drawn increased attention to Uguamaye’s situation and the potential consequences she could face from the NYSC or other authorities.

As of now, the NYSC has not issued any official statement regarding the issue.
