Hearing has begun at the Nasarawa State High Court 2 in Lafia on the alleged murder of 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, Salome Adaidu.
The defendant, Oluwatimilehin Ajayi, accused of killing and dismembering Adaidu, pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide.
During the proceedings, the Prosecution Counsel, Raymond Umaru, called three witnesses, including the Divisional Police Officer of Karshi Police Station, the investigating officer, and the victim’s uncle, Samson Adaidu. The court also granted an amendment of the defendant’s name from Timilehin Ajayi to Oluwatimilehin Ajayi.

In a gripping testimony, Samson Adaidu told the court that he identified the victim’s head when it was retrieved from a polythene bag. The defense counsel, Joseph Tukur-Sisong, questioned whether a forensic investigation had confirmed the body’s identity.
Meanwhile, the State Government, through Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General Hauwa Samuel-Jugbo, successfully applied to take over the prosecution from the police.Justice Simon Aboki ordered the defendant’s remand at the Lafia Correctional Centre, adjourning the case to March 18, for the continuation of the hearing.
