The Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA has cautioned residents of Afaka, Kauya, and Mando in Kaduna State to steer clear of the “Open Range” during its upcoming shooting exercise.
The NDA’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Mohammed Maidawa, issued a statement on Tuesday in Kaduna, urging residents to prioritize their safety as the training exercise commences. The live-fire drills are scheduled to take place between Wednesday and Friday as part of the Range Classification Exercise for cadets of the Short Service Course 48 Army.
Maidawa emphasized that the exercise is a crucial aspect of the cadets’ training, designed to improve their marksmanship skills. He highlighted the potential risks, particularly for pedestrians and cattle rearers, and stressed the importance of avoiding the designated area throughout the exercise period. The NDA has put measures in place, including warning signs and barriers, to mark restricted zones.

To ensure safety, community members have been urged to comply with the directive and refrain from entering the training area. The NDA reiterated that the shooting range would be off-limits for both residents and training personnel not directly involved in the exercise. This restriction is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring a smooth training session for the cadets.
The academy reassured the affected communities of its commitment to their safety and well-being. Maidawa called for full cooperation, stating that adherence to safety instructions would benefit both the residents and the military personnel undergoing training.
Residents have been encouraged to stay informed about security advisories and avoid unnecessary movement around the NDA Open Range. The institution expressed appreciation for their understanding and support in facilitating a successful training program.
