The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has announced the discovery of an illegal crude oil reservoir within the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Akure, NSCDC spokesperson DSC Daniel Aidamenbor disclosed that the find was made during a collaborative operation involving the Nigerian Army and TANTITA Security Service.
The illicit reservoir, located in a forest area in Obe-Akingboye, Ilaje Local Government Area, was uncovered on Sunday at approximately 2:12 p.m.

However, no arrests were made, as the suspects had already fled the scene by the time authorities arrived.
In response to the incident, the Ondo State Commandant, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, issued a strong warning to individuals involved in illegal petroleum activities, stressing that they would face severe legal consequences.
He further emphasized the NSCDC’s dedication to safeguarding vital national assets, particularly those in the solid minerals sector.
