President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe as Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority effective March 11.
The appointment of the former Kwara central senator would be for an initial term of four years, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman, said in a statement on Sunday.
Oloriegbe represented Kwara central senatorial district at the ninth senate of the National Assembly.
He holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Oloriegbe served as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and the chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.
As chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Dr. Oloriegbe in 2022 played a pivotal role in the passage of the National Health Insurance Authority Act
The National Health Insurance Authority Act replaced the National Health Insurance Scheme and also birthed the Group Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme, GIFSHIP.
“The NHIA will be authority that will cover all schemes, and everything will be brought together. The most important aspect of it is to make health insurance mandatory for all Nigerians,’’ said Oloriegbe on the floor of the Senate.
In addition, Oloriegbe said the senate had been working with the Federal Ministry of Health to improve health coverage by giving the Basic Health Care Provision Fund for effective implementation.
