The National Chairman of the Labour Party LP, Julius Abure, has accused the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC of orchestrating plans to invade the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. 

Abure made the allegations in a statement released to the press on Sunday, raising concerns over what he described as a “dangerous plot” by certain individuals within the political and labour spheres to destabilize the party.

According to him, the plot aims to disrupt the functioning of the Labour Party and tarnish its image ahead of crucial political activities in the country.

He claimed that the NLC, led by Ayuba Wabba, in collaboration with Governor Otti, was planning to mobilize workers and other supporters to storm the LP’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Abure stressed that the alleged plan is being carried out under the guise of protesting political differences and issues concerning workers’ welfare, but he insists that it is part of a broader agenda to undermine the party’s leadership.

“The Labour Party has become a strong voice for the masses, and certain political figures are unhappy with this.

Governor Otti and the NLC leadership have been pushing for actions that could destabilize the party, with the national secretariat as the prime target,” Abure said.

He further alleged that the planned invasion of the secretariat could lead to violence and chaos, with the potential to derail the ongoing efforts of the party to address national issues.

The Labour Party leader called on security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any attempt to disrupt the peace at the secretariat.

In his statement, Abure also questioned Governor Otti’s recent actions, suggesting that his behaviour was politically motivated and designed to create division within the party.

The Governor, who was once a member of the LP, defected to the All-Progressives Grand Alliance before contesting the gubernatorial election in Abia State.

Abure argued that Otti’s current stance against the Labour Party was a direct attempt to weaken its influence in Nigerian politics.

The NLC has yet to officially respond to the allegations made by Abure, but sources close to the labour body have downplayed the claims, saying that the union’s focus remains on advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers.

Meanwhile, the LP has vowed to continue with its advocacy for better governance, calling on all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and peaceful resolutions over any form of violence or disruption.

The alleged plot to invade the LP national secretariat comes at a time of heightened political tension in Nigeria, as parties and their leaders prepare for upcoming elections and political developments.

As the situation continues to unfold, the LP and its leadership are calling on their members and supporters to remain calm and committed to the principles of peace and democracy.
