Tech billionaire and X owner Elon Musk has made startling claims that powerful interests in the United States want him dead because of his efforts to expose corruption and inefficiency within the government.

In a Fox News interview—reshared on his X account—Musk alleged that his recent work with the federal government, particularly his role in President Donald Trump’s administration, has placed him in the crosshairs of corrupt actors who feel threatened by his reforms.

“They basically want to kill me because I’m stopping their fraud,” Musk said bluntly. “They want to hurt Tesla because we’re stopping this terrible waste and corruption in the government.”

The billionaire entrepreneur currently serves as the head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, a role he accepted following Trump’s re-election. In this capacity, Musk has led multiple investigations into major federal agencies including the Departments of Defense, Treasury, Education, Health, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. His goal, he says, is to streamline operations and slash excessive spending in what he calls a “deeply bloated system.”

His comments follow mass protests on April 5, 2025, in major U.S. cities. The protests were largely directed at both Musk and President Trump, with demonstrators accusing the duo of authoritarian tendencies and corporate overreach. Placards calling for Musk to resign from his government advisory role were seen alongside chants denouncing the influence of billionaires in governance.

Musk, however, dismissed the backlash as the reaction of those with vested interests. “I guess they’re bad people, and bad people will do bad things,” he said during the interview.

Supporters of Musk argue that his reforms have already saved billions in taxpayer money and have brought transparency to previously opaque federal contracts. Critics, however, view his role as a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a private businessman with deep political ties.

Despite the controversy, Musk appears unshaken, continuing to wield influence in both the private and public sectors, from leading Tesla and SpaceX to shaping government policy.

As the protests grow louder and political tensions rise, Musk’s place at the intersection of tech, politics, and public accountability is becoming increasingly contentious—raising questions about power, transparency, and the future of governance in America.
