Golf enthusiasts have honoured Ibrahim Babayo, the outgoing Captain of IBB International Golf and Country, Abuja, at the 2025 Captain’s Cup tee-off ceremony.
The commendations were made during the 2025 IBB Captain’s Cup ceremonial tee-off, which marked the beginning of a week-long golf tournament in his honour.
Babayo was joined by dignitaries including the Chief of Army Staff, members of the Board of Trustees,BOT, and the club’s Executive Committee to perform the ceremonial tee-off.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Maj.-Gen. Adetokunbo Fayemiwo described Babayo as a dedicated leader whose efforts have positively impacted the club.
“I sincerely congratulate my dear friend and brother, Captain Ibrahim Babayo, and his team for a successful tournament to mark the end of their tenure,” he said.
He added that golf remains an important sport for the military, promoting healthy living and camaraderie.
Also speaking, President of the Nigeria Golf Federation,NGF, Olusegun Runsewe, who is also a BOT member, described the 2025 event as a special platform to reflect on Babayo’s legacy.

“Today, I stand here as a golf enthusiast, a BOT member, and the president of NGF. I thank the golfing community for choosing to honour Babayo in this unique way,” he said.
Grace Ihonvbere, a past Lady Captain and BOT member, commended Babayo for the visible improvements made under his leadership.
“Our greens are in excellent shape. We’ve seen renovations and general upgrades. He has indeed contributed his quota,” she said.
The event, themed “Tiger Bows Out,” will climax on Saturday with a dinner and award night after five days of competitions.
No fewer than 300 golfers have competed in various categories including men’s and women’s division three, veterans, super veterans, sponsors, and professional golfers.
The final day will feature men’s handicap 0–10 and female handicap 0–15 battles, with BOT members, Executive Committee members, sponsors, and invited guests also competing for honours.
