Media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked widespread debate following her candid remarks about marriage on her podcast, Toke Moments.
In an episode shared on Instagram, the 40-year-old said, “At this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to marry again, as a second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife, I’ll take it.” Though made in a playful tone, her comment triggered a storm of reactions online, reigniting discussions about societal expectations, personal choice, and women’s independence.
Toke also reflected on her past marriage to Maje Ayida, which ended in 2017 following infidelity claims. She admitted that the relationship left her emotionally shattered. “I am 40, I am single, and I am childless. I said it, and I didn’t die,” she said.
Her remarks stirred mixed reactions on social media, especially on X. Irene (@Irenevens) wrote, “I for say make she write application letter go give PA Ned, but unfortunately for her, na only virgin he dey marry.” Job (@Jet8Lucky) added, “SHE HAS TO PUT THIS OUT HERE, BEFORE SHE BECOMES SECOND WIFE TO A BILLIONAIRE. TO AVOID CRITICISM.”
Thompson Ochuko (@OchukoThompson) commented, “This is leading somewhere… She may just be watering the ground.” Oladele (@oladele92abiola) responded cynically, “Why wouldn’t she mind becoming a 2-5th wife after testing all mic with bad character.”
