The Edo State Police Command has clarified the recent arrest of four individuals intercepted with arms and ammunition, confirming they are hunters from Kano State and not herdsmen.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu said social media reports had falsely claimed that four armed herdsmen were arrested at a hotel in the state and handed over to the police.
But the command explained that the individuals were in fact hunters, not herdsmen, and were apprehended by members of the Edo Security Network.
The suspects, identified as Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu were intercepted upon arrival in the state and found with three Dane guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers.

They were immediately handed over to officers at the Ikpoba Hill Police Station, where preliminary investigations confirmed that they were hunters from Doguwa in Kano State, heading to Uvbe community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
The police command emphasized that the circulation of false information describing the suspects as herdsmen could cause unnecessary panic and tension among residents.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, appealed to the public to refrain from spreading misinformation, stressing the importance of verifying facts before sharing them on social platforms.
He also assured that investigations into the case are ongoing and that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.
