A trailer carrying a container crashed at Berger on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Friday morning, killing three and causing hours-long gridlock.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a trailer carrying a container lost control and overturned on the outward bound lane of the expressway, close to the Berger bridge.
The trailer blocked the entire lane, causing a complete standstill that stretched from Berger to the Old Toll Gate around the 7Up area.
At least three people were feared dead in the crash, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The victims were reportedly trapped under the container, prompting swift response efforts from emergency agencies and good Samaritans.

Rescue operations were ongoing as at press time, with officials working to recover bodies, attend to the injured, and clear the obstruction from the road.
The crash not only affected the outward lane but also caused a spillover of traffic into the inward bound section as some drivers resorted to driving against traffic, worsening the already chaotic scene.
Traffic enforcement officers, Federal Road Safety Corps personnel, and other emergency responders have been deployed to the scene. They continue to work to restore traffic flow and ensure the safety of road users.
Motorists heading out of Lagos were advised to seek alternative routes or delay their journeys until the road is fully cleared.
The incident highlights growing concerns about the safety of articulated vehicles on Nigerian roads and the need for stricter enforcement of roadworthiness regulations.
Efforts are still underway to determine the cause of the accident, though eyewitnesses noted that the trailer may have been moving at high speed before the crash.
As investigations continue, authorities urge road users to drive cautiously and obey traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
