Nollywood has been thrown into mourning again following the sudden death of two young film talents in Owerri, Imo State.
Veteran movie producer, Stanley Ontop, broke the tragic news via his Instagram page, stating that the victims—identified as a rising actor, Evans, and a Director of Photography, Nnunu—died after allegedly consuming drinks gifted to them by a movie director as a show of appreciation after a day of filming.
Sources from the set confirmed that the drinks were shared after filming wrapped up, with the crew in high spirits over the success of the day’s shoot. Hours later, four members of the team, including Evans and Nnunu, began experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting.
Crew members initially assumed it was a minor stomach upset and administered basic first aid. Unfortunately, the symptoms intensified rapidly. By the time a vehicle was arranged to rush them to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, both Evans and Nnunu were already unresponsive.
Medical staff at the hospital confirmed both had died before arrival. The remaining two crew members who also took the drink were immediately placed on oxygen and are currently receiving treatment, with hopes pinned on their recovery.

In response to the tragic incident, the Imo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation. Authorities are seeking to determine the exact cause of the deaths and trace the origin of the drink, which some sources suspect may have been expired or banned.
There are also concerns over the distribution of the liquor, identified as ‘Calypso,’ which is reportedly banned by the federal government. This has raised further questions about how the drink was sourced and why it was available on set.
Tributes have since poured in from industry colleagues and fans, expressing grief over the loss of the promising talents. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and safety protocols within the entertainment industry.
As the Nollywood community grapples with the loss, many are calling for swift justice and improved welfare measures for film crews and cast members.
