Like chasing a mirage, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Malam Shehu Mohammed has ordered a probe into Friday’s crash at Karu Bridge, Abuja.
The directive followed a fatal accident involving a truck carrying cement and four other vehicles near the NNPC Junction shortly after Karu Bridge.
FRSC Spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, described the incident as unfortunate and avoidable.
The crash, which occurred on Good Friday afternoon, was blamed on brake failure from the articulated truck. It claimed the life of one male occupant, left three others injured—two females and one male—while six other passengers escaped unhurt.
Ten persons—seven males and three females—were involved in the accident.
Ogungbemide stated that FRSC operatives from the Karu Under Bridge patrol unit responded swiftly to the emergency, rescuing the victims and transporting the injured to Karu General Hospital for medical attention.
He said that the scene was promptly cleared to ease traffic congestion and restore order on the busy road.
The Corps Marshal, while consoling with the family of the deceased, assured the public of a comprehensive investigation into both the immediate and underlying causes of the crash.

Mohammed also directed all field commands nationwide to step up enforcement of roadworthiness checks on articulated vehicles.
“FRSC will not tolerate negligence on the part of fleet operators and drivers. There will be consequences for any violations that endanger lives on our roads,” Ogungbemide stated.
He also urged motorists to obey traffic safety regulations, especially during peak travel seasons such as the ongoing Easter celebrations.
Friday’s accident comes less than a month after a similar fatal crash involving a Dangote truck on the same Karu Bridge.
In that incident, the truck reportedly suffered brake failure and ploughed into multiple vehicles, leading to the loss of several lives.
