The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, coordinators in Kwara and Benue states have called for improved welfare for corps members serving in their states.
At the official opening and swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Corps members in Yikpata, Kwara State Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Onifade urged state and local governments, as well as employers, to enhance the welfare of corps members.
He commended the Federal Government’s upward review of corps members’ allowances and asked employers to complement this effort by providing transport allowances and modest accommodation.
“Employers, who are the direct beneficiaries of corps members’ services, must improve the welfare packages given to them while on national service,” he said.
Onifade emphasised that improved welfare was necessary for corps members to stay motivated and deliver their best at their places of primary assignment.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Shehu Ndanusa, welcomed the corps members to Kwara, describing it as the “State of Harmony.”
