The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun, has announced the death of Mr Oreoluwa Adewole, a 400-level student in the College of Health Sciences.
Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, on Thursday disclosed that the student complained of chest pain during the course of his examination and subsequently died despite prompt medical attention.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was confirmed by the Ife University Medical Students Association via a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The student was said to have slumped unexpectedly and could not be revived, moments before the commencement of their final examination.
He said the tragic loss has thrown the university community into mourning.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Bamire, on behalf of the governing council, Senate, staff and the students extended heartfelt condolences to the parents, siblings and the entire family of the deceased.
“He also commiserated with his friends, colleagues, and members of the College of Health Sciences over this painful and irreparable loss.
“The University authority is currently engaging relevant authorities and the family to provide necessary support and to further understand the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.

“May the soul of the departed rest in perfect peace,” he stated.
Also, a Missing LASU student has been found in Ekiti after one week.
The association expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Emmanuel as a valued member of the medical community whose life was cut short at a critical stage of his academic journey.
“This incident is not only sad, but crucially painful as we lost a rising star and a loving member of the IFUMSA family,” it added.
IFUMSA also appealed to the public to avoid speculation surrounding the circumstances of Emmanuel’s death and urged respect for the privacy of his grieving family.
