A forensic pathologist has said Mohbad may have died from a severe allergic reaction—not drug abuse—as his death probe nears conclusion.
The coroner’s inquest into the death of 26-year-old singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, continued on Friday at the Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu.
The presiding magistrate, Adedayo Shotobi, stated that a date for the final verdict would be communicated to all parties.
During the hearing, the last witness, Dr. Uwom Eze, a forensic pathologist who conducted the second autopsy on Mohbad, testified that no hard drugs were found in the deceased’s system.
He clarified this while being cross-examined by Abiodun Kolawole, a counsel for the African Women Lawyers Association.
Eze stated that the late singer was administered regulated doses of antihistamines—typically used to manage allergic reactions—and painkillers, which indicated he was in pain before his death.
He told the court that although he found an injury on the back of Mohbad’s right arm, it was superficial and not life-threatening.

“Even a newborn baby won’t die from that injury,” he said, adding that the wound was no longer visible by the time of autopsy’s due to post-mortem changes.
The witness noted that he couldn’t determine how the injection was administered, as critical body fluids were lost due to decomposition.
Eze reiterated that the cause of death could not be conclusively determined because the body was already in a moderate to severe decomposed state when exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023.
However, he deemed it plausible that a rapid and fatal hypersensitivity reaction to a substance administered via injection could have occurred.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, after being treated at home by a nurse. He was buried the following day. Due to public outcry, the Lagos State Government ordered his body exhumed.
Responding to questions from the deceased’s family counsel, Wahab Shittu, Eze said the nurse’s handling of the case suggested a “medical misadventure.”
