Rapper OdumoduBlvck was crowned the winner of the coveted Next Rated award at the 17th edition of the prestigious Headies Award on Sunday.
The event, themed “Back to Base,” was held at the Landmark Event Centre, Lagos, marking a vibrant return to Nigeria after two years in the United States.
The Next Rated award, often seen as the night’s most prestigious honour, recognises the industry’s most promising and talented emerging artistes.
OdumoduBlvck’s victory was one of the evening’s highlights. In a deeply emotional moment, he brought his mother and crew on stage, sharing the spotlight with those closest to him.
He recounted how his mother had him in her late thirties and always believed in his destined greatness. With visible gratitude, he dedicated the award to her, strengthening the moving atmosphere in the hall.
The audience erupted in applause as his mother, beaming with pride, stood surrounded by friends, family, and well-wishers, creating one of the ceremony’s most memorable scenes.
The 17th Headies celebrated African music’s richness and diversity, attracting a star-studded lineup of guests.

Among the notable attendees was Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who added prestige to the colourful occasion.
In a touching highlight, Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and his wife, Priscilla Ojo, made their first appearance together as newlyweds, delighting fans and guests alike.
The ceremony featured awards across 31 categories, including Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Recording of the Year.
Davido clinched Artiste of the Year, while Rema won Afrobeats Album of the Year for “HEIS.” Zerry DL took home the Rookie of the Year award, further underlining a night of youthful triumphs.
Late rapper Mohbad was posthumously honoured, with his family present to receive the tribute. KCEE also received a Special Recognition Award for his enduring excellence in the music industry.
Other major winners included Liya (Best Vocal Performance – Female), Lojay (Best Vocal Performance – Male), and Qing Madi (Songwriter of the Year). Tems was awarded Best Recording of the Year for “Burning,” while Flavour secured Afrobeats Single of the Year with “Big Baller.”
The Humanitarian Award went to Temitola Adekunle Johnson and Michelle Mukoro (King Mitchy), reinforcing the night’s celebration of excellence, resilience, and impact.
