The Mexican Embassy in Nigeria on Tuesday inaugurated the Nigeria-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, NMCC, and a new board to boost trade ties.

Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Alfredo Miranda, described the NMCC as a pivotal step in redefining the economic, cultural and strategic relationship between Nigeria and Mexico.

He said the chamber would serve as a bridge between both countries, connecting businesses, fostering innovation and driving opportunities in key sectors.

“This is the moment we are certain to work, create new narratives and show people that together, Nigeria and Mexico are powerhouses,” Miranda stated.

He stressed the need to focus on strategic sectors that reflect the strength and potential of each country, adding that future trade figures would exceed current projections.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, represented by Amb. Anderson Madubuike, Director, Economic, Trade and Investment Department, said the chamber’s launch came at a defining moment in global commerce.

“There is so much both countries can do to advance the global economy. It is time African countries take their rightful place among the comity of nations,” he said.

The Minister of Livestock and Rural Development, Mr. Idi Mukhtar, highlighted agriculture as a key area for collaboration, especially in red meat production and dairy.

“Nigeria imports over $1.5 billion worth of dairy annually. We are ready to upscale red meat operations, attract investment and compete globally,” he said.

NMCC President, Arim Pete, said the new leadership would focus on building a chamber founded on trust, opportunity and vision.

“Mexico is not just a regional power; it’s the 12th largest economy globally with a $1.8 trillion GDP. Our economies are complementary—it’s time to act,” she said.

The event attracted industry captains, diplomats, trade leaders and the President of NACCIMA, Dele Oye.

NMCC, established in 2014, is dedicated to promoting bilateral trade, easing regulatory processes and driving partnerships that foster innovation and job creation.
