The Borno State Government and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, have renewed their joint commitment to tackling human trafficking, particularly cases involving women and girls.
This renewed collaboration was announced by Borno State Commissioner for Justice, Hauwa Abubakar, during a meeting with a NAPTIP delegation led by Zonal Commander Mohammed Barde in Maiduguri.
Abubakar, who also chairs the state’s Task Force on Human Trafficking, emphasized the urgency of the fight and the importance of working together to dismantle trafficking rings and protect vulnerable populations.

“I appreciate your commitment and presence as we work together to review our progress, discuss ongoing initiatives, and strategize on effective measures to combat human trafficking in our region,” she said.
She urged all stakeholders to approach the engagement with a strong sense of purpose and justice, stressing that the outcome of the discussions would have long-term impacts on the protection of human rights in the state.
According to her, while Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration continues to prioritize infrastructure development, the protection of human dignity and the rights of citizens remains a top agenda.
The commissioner expressed optimism that the discussions would result in concrete, actionable strategies to combat trafficking and better safeguard at-risk individuals.
Earlier in the meeting, NAPTIP’s Zonal Commander, Mohammed Barde, stated that the visit was designed to reinforce stakeholder collaboration and improve surveillance, coordination, and public awareness campaigns against child trafficking and related crimes in Borno State.
He lauded the state government’s ongoing support, describing it as vital to the agency’s success. “Allow me to express my gratitude and acknowledge the continuous support your ministry has extended to both the Task Force and NAPTIP,” Barde said.
He called for the continuation of this partnership to build a more just and secure society.
