Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, has issued a strong warning to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, advising him not to run for president again in 2027.
In a recent media interview, Baba-Ahmed said Atiku’s repeated bids for the presidency—having contested in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023—signal an unwillingness to give way for others. He stressed that the North has produced the president for several terms and it is now time for the South, particularly the South-East, to be given a fair chance.

He said, “It is not healthy for one region or individual to keep contesting over and over while other parts of the country are left out of leadership. For national unity and balance, power should rotate.”
The Labour Party chieftain also called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rethink its internal democracy and reflect on the principle of zoning that once guided party decisions. He warned that disregarding such principles could further divide the country and fuel resentment among marginalized groups.
His statement adds to the ongoing national conversation about zoning, generational change in leadership, and the need to build a more inclusive political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
