The World Bank has commended the Jigawa State Government for its effective execution of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, AcReSAL, project, describing it as one of the best-performing states under the initiative.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse, Dr. Joy Agene, the Task Team Lead of the AcReSAL Project, led a World Bank delegation and offered glowing praise for the administration’s commitment and integrity.
“Your Excellency, you are one of the most efficient, committed, transparent, and honest governors we have engaged with. The people of Jigawa are indeed blessed to have you,” Agene said, acknowledging the government’s exceptional performance among states across Nigeria.
According to Agene, Jigawa’s project execution and cross-sectoral collaboration stood out during the Bank’s latest evaluation of AcReSAL activities.
“Whenever we sit with other states to review project status, Jigawa always stands out. The multi-sectoral coordination we’ve observed here is not only impressive but also a model for others,” she said.
Agene added that the visit was part of a diligence mission to inspect the progress of ongoing interventions, identify strengths, and make recommendations to improve delivery. The mission is also aimed at ensuring that the project maintains impact and sustainability at the grassroots level.

In his remarks, Governor Namadi thanked the World Bank for the commendation and emphasized the profound benefits the AcReSAL project has brought to Jigawa’s communities.
“These projects have significantly improved the lives of our people,” he said. “From erosion control and environmental protection to improved water access and efforts to fight desert encroachment, the impact is visible and appreciated across the state.”
Namadi lauded Dr. Agene for her integrity and leadership, calling her a dependable partner in development. He assured the delegation of Jigawa’s continued commitment to upholding and sustaining the goals of the AcReSAL initiative.
“You have a reliable and committed partner in Jigawa State. We will ensure this project’s long-term success,” he added.
The AcReSAL project is a World Bank-funded initiative designed to address the growing environmental and climate challenges in Nigeria’s semi-arid regions. It aims to strengthen climate resilience through sustainable land and water management practices, while improving livelihoods and reducing environmental degradation in vulnerable communities.
Jigawa’s performance under the project has now placed it as a model for other states to emulate.
