The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC, and Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and driving inclusive national prosperity through a reinforced strategic partnership.
This renewed collaboration was highlighted during a courtesy visit on Friday by the President/Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, to the Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Bashir Ojulari, at the NNPC Towers in Abuja. The visit brought together senior management from both organisations in a show of unity for the shared goal of securing Nigeria’s energy future.
According to a statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Olufemi Soneye, both leaders agreed to foster “mutually beneficial partnerships” that encourage healthy business competition while advancing Nigeria’s economic interests.
“There is no competition between us,” Dangote stated during the meeting. “NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of cooperation between the two organisations.”

He congratulated Ojulari and his team on their appointments and acknowledged the scale of responsibility ahead, emphasizing that a united front was key to transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape.
Ojulari, in his remarks, emphasized that the NNPC Ltd. would continue to engage with private sector partners like the Dangote Group to unlock new opportunities in the oil and gas industry. He praised the competence of his workforce, describing them as “highly skilled, dedicated professionals” committed to delivering value.
He also highlighted the need for synergy, especially in refining and downstream operations, to reduce dependence on imported fuels and ensure energy stability for Nigeria.
Both parties committed to acting as direct relationship managers for their respective institutions and to driving innovation, sustainability, and commercial value through this partnership.
This visit comes at a time when Nigeria is focusing on boosting local refining capacity through the Dangote Refinery, one of the largest single-train refineries in the world, and deepening reforms in the oil and gas sector through the ongoing transformation of NNPC Ltd. into a commercially driven enterprise.
