A prominent Anambra-based lawyer, Barrister Rolex Ifeanyi Iloakasia and his client were brutally gunned down in broad daylight shortly after attending a court session on Thursday, sending shockwaves through the Nanka and Aguleri communities.
According to multiple eyewitnesses and local reports, the victims were ambushed by suspected assassins while driving in a Toyota Corolla vehicle along the Amawbia-Agulu-Nanka-Ekwulobia-Uga-Akokwa highway, near the boundary between Nanka and Agulu in Anambra State.
Sources say the gunmen, who were riding on a motorcycle, had trailed the lawyer and his client from the courthouse, where Iloakasia had just concluded legal proceedings on what was described as a “very sensitive case.”
Without warning, the assailants intercepted the car, opened fire, and killed Barrister Iloakasia on the spot. His client, who tried to flee the scene, was also gunned down a few meters from the vehicle.

Eyewitness Iyke Orji confirmed that the case involved “major legal implications” and that Iloakasia had received threats prior to the hearing, although this could not be independently verified as of press time.
The attackers immediately fled the scene, and no immediate arrests were made. The Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, but investigations are reportedly underway.
The gruesome murders have sparked outrage and fear within the legal community and among residents, many of whom are demanding immediate action from law enforcement agencies to curb rising insecurity in the state.
Barrister Rolex Ifeanyi Iloakasia was the President-General of Aguleri Autonomous Community and a respected figure in local legal and political circles. His death, along with that of his client, has left a void in the community and raised renewed concerns about the safety of legal practitioners and whistleblowers handling high-stakes cases.
