The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Partyhas issued a stern warning to Rep. Afam Ogene, threatening to expel him from the party and initiate his recall from the National Assembly.

This was made known in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, on Tuesday in Abuja. According to Ifoh, Ogene—who represents his constituency under the Labour Party—has failed in his duties as a lawmaker and has lost the confidence of the party’s leadership.

Ifoh accused the federal legislator of attempting to use a classified document to intimidate key political figures, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, the police, and the party itself.

He claimed the document Ogene allegedly obtained from the AGF’s office is not only restricted but should never have been in his possession.

“A classified document that should only be available to the IGP or Minister of Justice somehow found its way into the hands of Ogene,” Ifoh said. “Rather than focus on his legislative responsibilities, he has resorted to political blackmail.”

The party alleged that Ogene, suspended from the Labour Party for failing to lead the party’s caucus effectively in the National Assembly, was now retaliating against the leadership, particularly following a Supreme Court ruling that upheld Abure’s leadership.

Ifoh further warned that if Ogene does not change his approach, the party would proceed with his expulsion and initiate a formal recall process from his constituency.

“He has become a liability to his constituents and the Labour Party. We cannot continue to tolerate such political recklessness,” Ifoh added.

The faction has also called on the Inspector General of Police to summon and question Ogene over the origins of the sensitive document, insisting that the lawmaker must be held accountable.
