The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, is working in close collaboration with the Department of State Services, DSS, to track down and apprehend inmates who recently escaped from a correctional facility in Osun State.
The Public Relations Officer of the NCoS, Assistant Controller Abubakar Umar has disclosed that a multi-agency operation was already underway to recapture the fleeing inmates. He assured the public that all security measures had been activated to bring the situation under control.
“We are working with other relevant security agencies, particularly the DSS, to ensure that every escapee is found and returned to custody,” Umar stated.
The exact number of escaped prisoners has not yet been officially disclosed, though reports indicate that multiple inmates may have broken free during a coordinated jailbreak. The circumstances surrounding the escape are still under investigation.

According to sources within the Osun Command of the NCoS, the incident occurred late at night, and may have involved internal sabotage or lapses in security at the prison. Surveillance footage and internal staff reports are being reviewed as part of the probe.
The prison facility has since been placed under tight security, and additional personnel have been deployed from both the Correctional Service and DSS to bolster control and prevent further breaches.
The NCoS is calling on members of the public to remain calm and to report any suspicious activities or persons who may resemble the escapees. The agency also reassured residents that no threat to public safety currently exists, as all exit routes are being monitored.
This latest incident adds to the growing concern over prison security across the country, following a series of jailbreaks in recent years that have drawn criticism from human rights groups and the general public.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and arrests are made.
