President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties.

The President directed that all matters relating to the committee’s activities be coordinated by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi.

Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday in Abuja.

The PIC was established in 2000 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to oversee the privatisation, sale and lease of Federal Government landed assets under the monetisation policy.

The committee comprised representatives of key ministries, departments and agencies, including the then Ministry of Housing, which served as chair, alongside the ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture.

Its membership also included representatives of the Nigeria Police Force and selected stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.

Prof. P.T. Ahire, then a Deputy Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, served as the pioneer secretary of the committee.

On March 22, 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved the establishment of a Panel of Inquiry to produce a White Paper on issues arising from the committee’s operations.

The panel reportedly worked for 21 months before submitting its report for government consideration and further action.

According to the Presidency, the Federal Government observed that the committee’s activities had expanded beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country.

The Presidency said the continued existence of the committee was no longer justified in view of the legal disputes associated with its operations.

“After careful consideration, the Government has noted that the activities of the PIC had extended beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country,” Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga disclosed in a statement

Tinubu has now directed that the Attorney-General of the Federation coordinate all matters relating to the dissolved committee with effect from Nov. 5, 2025.

The President also ordered the former secretary of the committee, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, to cease acting on behalf of the dissolved committee and the Federal Government on related matters.
