Members of the Katsina State House of Assembly have unanimously endorsed Governor Dikko Umar Radda for a second term in office, citing his “outstanding leadership and impactful governance” since assuming office in 2023.
The endorsement comes ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election, marking an early show of political support that signals growing momentum for the governor’s re-election campaign.
The announcement was made during a special session held at the Assembly Complex in Katsina on Friday. In a resolution read by the Speaker, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, the lawmakers commended Governor Radda’s efforts in tackling insecurity, promoting education, expanding access to healthcare, and boosting the agricultural sector.
“Governor Radda has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the development of Katsina State. His policies have positively transformed the lives of our people,” Speaker Daura said.
The legislators specifically highlighted the administration’s strides in rural development, including road construction, youth empowerment programmes, and agricultural incentives that have benefited thousands of farmers across the state.
In the area of security, Radda has introduced a community policing initiative and coordinated efforts with federal security agencies to reduce incidents of banditry and kidnapping, which previously plagued many local government areas.

Education has also received a boost under Radda’s leadership, with new model schools built in at least eight local councils, and the rehabilitation of over 200 public primary and secondary schools.
Lawmakers also acknowledged the governor’s prudent management of state resources, noting that despite national economic challenges, Katsina has maintained regular salary payments, improved infrastructure, and ensured transparent governance.
While Governor Radda has not yet officially declared his intention to run, political observers believe the Assembly’s endorsement is a strong indicator that the governor may soon make his ambitions public.
Party stakeholders and youth groups have also begun mobilizing in support of a second term, citing continuity and stability as crucial factors for consolidating recent gains.
The endorsement is expected to strengthen Radda’s influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of internal party primaries and could shape the early dynamics of the 2027 gubernatorial race in the North-Western state.
