The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the receipt of 110 letters of intent from various associations seeking registration as political parties in Nigeria.
The commission is currently reviewing each request in accordance with legal frameworks and its own regulatory guidelines.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this disclosure during a stakeholder meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday. He confirmed that, as of Monday, June 23, 2025, a total of 110 different associations had submitted official letters requesting registration to become political parties.
“We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the Electoral Act as well as our 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties,” Yakubu said. “All applications received have been acknowledged, except for six that came in recently and will be acknowledged before the end of the week.”
Professor Yakubu emphasized the commission’s commitment to transparency and due process in political party registration. He advised interested groups and the general public to consult the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022, available on the commission’s official website.

As part of its transparency measures, INEC has released a comprehensive list of all 110 associations seeking registration. The list contains detailed information including the proposed names, acronyms, contact addresses, as well as the names of each association’s proposed Chairman and Secretary.
“The list will be uploaded to our website and social media platforms shortly. For those physically present, hard copies have also been included in your folders for this meeting,” the INEC chairman announced.
