The Permanent Secretary, Special Service Office, Mohammed Danjuma has taken the mantle of office at the General Services Office, GSO, at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF.
Danjuma will oversee the office with the retirement of Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri after more than 30 years in service. The handing over ceremony was performed on Thursday.
Dr. Mbaeri’s public service career spanned five years under the stewardship of both Sen. George Akume, the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and his predecessor, Boss Mustapha.
In his farewell remarks, Dr. Mbaeri thanked the SGF and his predecessor for their leadership and mentorship during his tenure.
He expressed appreciation to his colleagues — including Dr. Aishetu Ndayako (Ecological Project Office), Engr. Gagare Nadungu (Political and Economic Affairs), and Danjuma — for their professional collaboration and support.
He urged all stakeholders to extend similar cooperation to his successor, highlighting the importance of unity in the civil service for effective governance.
Dr. Mbaeri’s retirement coincided with his 60th birthday celebration, held in Abuja. The event drew tributes from across the civil service community, with testimonies from colleagues, staff, and dignitaries who praised his integrity, discipline, and legacy of mentorship.
Danjuma described Dr. Mbaeri as “a mentor par excellence” and commended his unwavering commitment to the public sector.

Akume and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for entrusting him with the new role.
Highlighting the collaborative efforts needed for a smooth transition, Mr. Danjuma called on other Permanent Secretaries and staff to maintain the atmosphere of teamwork that defined Dr. Mbaeri’s tenure. He emphasized that continuity, institutional memory, and dedication would be crucial in delivering on the GSO’s mandate.
The Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Segun Imohiosen, affirmed that the Federal Government remains committed to rewarding excellence and ensuring a seamless transfer of responsibilities within the civil service.
The departure of Dr. Mbaeri marks the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s administrative history, and the beginning of a new era under the leadership of Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, who now shoulders the responsibility of steering the General Services Office at the OSGF.
