The Federal Government has announced plans to honour 250 exceptional Nigerians from all walks of life as part of the upcoming activities to commemorate the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary in October 2025.

The recognition will be captured in a landmark documentary compendium titled “Nigeria Celebrates,” which aims to spotlight innovation, excellence, and patriotism.

The initiative was officially flagged off at a ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, where Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume described it as “a historic and remarkable project” designed to reflect the nation’s values and human capital.

The SGF, represented by the Permanent Secretary overseeing the General Services Office, Mallam Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma emphasized that the publication would symbolize the resilience and brilliance that define the Nigerian spirit.

“This initiative presents a timely opportunity to reflect, project and celebrate the values of resilience, innovation, and patriotism that define the Nigerian spirit,” Akume stated. He noted that the compendium would also provide inspiration for the nation’s youth and strengthen the collective resolve toward unity and development.

The project, carried out in collaboration with OyanaHealth Limited, is expected to feature not only the 250 celebrated individuals but also highlight major governmental achievements and spotlight 11 top-performing state governors.

The national celebration will include complementary activities such as patriotic songs, quiz competitions, innovation showcases, and a music concert to foster engagement, creativity, and national pride.

Engr. Nadungu Gagare the Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office, described the initiative as both a historical archive and a forward-looking strategy.

“The compendium will serve as a historic record and a tool for inspiring talent. It will promote credible narratives about Nigeria by recognizing excellence in governance and various sectors,” Gagare said.

The convener and Chief Executive Officer of OyanaHealth Ltd, Ms. Jennifer Chinyelu Obiasor, provided more insight into the project’s scope. According to her, the compendium will feature Nigerians who are excelling globally in sectors such as medicine, technology, entertainment, business, sports, and diplomacy.

“The project, aptly themed ‘Nigeria Celebrates’, is dedicated to shining a spotlight on Nigerian trailblazers both at home and abroad. These are individuals whose efforts have brought pride to the country and whose achievements inspire a new generation of leaders,” Obiasor said.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to fostering a sense of unity and purpose through initiatives like this, adding that the compendium would be released in time for the October 1 celebrations.

The event was coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and supported by various ministries and stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
