The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old boy, Wahab Lawal. The suspects are being detained for prosecution.

The Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta. According to her, the deceased had been living with his grandmother before being reported missing by his father, Mr. Olumide Lawal.

“Tragically, on July 23, his lifeless and decomposed body was discovered along the Old Express Road, Igbile-Ijebu,” Odutola said.

Preliminary examination of the corpse revealed that the head, both wrists, heart, and genitals had been gruesomely removed, suggesting ritualistic motives.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Omu-Ijebu Division apprehended suspects connected to the crime. One of the arrested individuals reportedly gave a voluntary confessional statement, which was recorded on video.

Due to the state of the remains, the boy was buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Odutola further disclosed that the case file and exhibits have been prepared for immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, for further investigation.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices.

The Police Command strongly condemned the barbaric act and assured the public that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
