Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres has officially begun his Arsenal career, taking part in the Gunners’ final training session in Singapore before their highly anticipated clash with Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong.
Gyökeres, 26, sealed his switch from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon late Saturday evening in a deal reported to be worth around £51 million, becoming Arsenal’s marquee summer signing.
The forward touched down in Asia shortly after finalising personal terms and passing a medical, displaying immediate commitment by linking up with the squad just hours later.
Despite watching from the stands as Arsenal edged past Newcastle United 3-2 in a friendly, Monday’s training marked Gyökeres’ official debut on the pitch in red and white.
Arsenal’s media team released a gallery of high-energy images showing the Swedish international smiling, sharing light moments with teammates, and taking part in tactical drills alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber.
Known for his strength, speed, and pressing ability, Gyökeres enjoyed a prolific spell in Portugal, netting 27 league goals and assisting 11 more last season. His impressive performances drew interest from several Premier League sides, but Arsenal moved decisively to secure his services.

Manager Mikel Arteta reportedly views him as a vital addition to a front line that has struggled with consistency in the absence of a traditional number nine.
His arrival also adds valuable depth to an Arsenal attack that will be competing on multiple fronts next season, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup. Gyökeres’ physical presence and link-up play are expected to complement Arsenal’s fast-paced wingers and attacking midfielders, offering an alternative option to the more mobile Gabriel Jesus and the youthful Folarin Balogun.
Speaking anonymously, a club source noted, “Viktor has been on Arsenal’s radar for over a year. The technical team believes his direct style and hunger to press from the front suit Arteta’s vision perfectly. His attitude so far has been top-notch.”
The mood at Monday’s training was both intense and optimistic. With Thursday’s derby against Spurs set to wrap up Arsenal’s Asia Tour, players pushed hard during the drills while still taking time to welcome Gyökeres into the fold.
The squad will now fly to Hong Kong, where Gyökeres could feature in some capacity—even if just a cameo—as he continues building match fitness.
This transfer also reunites Gyökeres with his international teammate Ødegaard, who captains both Arsenal and the Norwegian national team. Their familiarity, along with shared Scandinavian roots, may ease the new striker’s transition into life at the Emirates.
